Human-Computer Interaction

Human-Computer Interaction combines computing, design, psychology, research, and human factors to understand how people use technology and how those experiences can be improved. Students may study user research, interaction design, prototyping, accessibility, usability, cognition, and enough computing to understand what digital systems can and cannot do. HCI is especially useful for students who like technology but are just as interested in human behavior, interfaces, products, and the consequences of design choices.

In practice, Human-Computer Interaction tends to combine designing and making with collaboration and people-centered work. Early coursework often introduces User research and Interaction design; later work asks you to use those foundations in areas such as Prototyping, Human factors, and Computing.

The collection includes established majors, emerging or specialized undergraduate majors, career paths that can be reached through several majors, and emerging fields that usually do not have one standard undergraduate degree.
