This Privacy Policy applies to Davisville Labs LLC, Compass by Davisville Labs, davisvillelabs.com, Compass account pages, signup forms, contact forms, project workspaces, portfolio tools, payment flows, email communications, analytics, and related services.

1. Information we may collect

Depending on how you use Compass, we may collect:

• Parent or guardian information: Name, email address, student grade level, questions, messages, and signup details.
• Student information: Student name if provided, grade level, interests, goals, selected project areas, project progress, reflections, portfolio notes, saved links, and college readiness information.
• Account information: Email address, authentication method, login activity, and basic account details managed through Supabase Auth and, when selected, Google login.
• Compass product data: Interests selected, projects started, completed steps, saved notes, reflections, project links, portfolio entries, readiness indicators, and dashboard activity.
• Payment information: Subscription status, checkout metadata, payment confirmation, and billing-related information processed through Stripe. We do not store full payment card numbers on our own systems.
• Contact and support information: Messages submitted through contact forms, signup forms, support requests, or email.
• Technical and analytics information: IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referral source, approximate location, form submission metadata, performance data, security logs, and analytics events.

Compass does not currently allow students or parents to upload image files or documents directly into the platform. Users may save text, links, notes, reflections, project progress, and portfolio-related information.

2. How we use information

We may use information to:

• Create and manage Compass accounts.
• Authenticate users through Supabase Auth and Google login.
• Process subscriptions, payments, and account access through Stripe.
• Save student interests, projects, portfolio notes, reflections, and progress.
• Provide the Compass dashboard, project workspace, portfolio features, and college readiness tools.
• Respond to parent questions, contact requests, support needs, and account issues.
• Send service-related emails, account notices, payment-related messages, and product updates.
• Improve site performance, product design, usability, reliability, and security.
• Understand aggregate website and product usage through analytics.
• Prevent abuse, troubleshoot problems, and protect the integrity of our systems.
• Comply with legal, tax, accounting, security, and operational obligations.

3. Students, minors, and parent involvement

Compass is intended for families with students in grades 9 through 12. For students under 18, use of Compass should be approved and supervised by a parent or legal guardian.

Compass is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without appropriate parent or guardian involvement. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Parents and guardians should not submit highly sensitive personal, medical, financial, legal, or confidential academic information through Compass unless it is necessary for support and shared through an appropriate channel.

4. Project, portfolio, and reflection content

Compass helps students save project progress, notes, reflections, links, and portfolio-related information. This information may be personal because it can reflect a student’s interests, goals, writing, growth, and future plans.

We use project and portfolio information to provide Compass features, show progress, support account functionality, and help families organize student work over time.

Davisville Labs will not publicly use student-identifying project work, portfolio content, reflections, or examples in marketing without additional permission from the student and, when applicable, a parent or guardian.

5. AI-supported features

Compass may include AI-supported project coaching, brainstorming, reflection support, writing prompts, or guidance features. If AI-supported features are used, information shared with those features may be processed to generate responses, suggestions, or guidance.

Users should review AI-generated content carefully. AI output may be incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate for a specific situation. Compass is designed to support thinking and reflection, not replace student judgment, parent judgment, school guidance, or professional advice.

6. Cookies, analytics, and site measurement

We may use cookies or similar technologies for essential site functions, login sessions, security, analytics, product improvement, and performance measurement.

Davisville Labs uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website and product pages. Analytics may include pages visited, referral sources, device and browser information, approximate location information, and general usage patterns.

We use analytics to improve Compass, understand which pages and features are useful, and make better product decisions. We do not use Google Analytics to collect full payment card details, passwords, or private student project content.

7. Third-party services

Davisville Labs uses trusted third-party services to operate Compass and related systems. These providers may process information according to their own privacy policies and security practices.

Current or future providers may include:

• Cloudflare for hosting, DNS, routing, performance, and security.
• Supabase for database, authentication, backend functions, and account infrastructure.
• Google for optional Google login, analytics, email, and related services.
• Stripe for payment processing, subscriptions, checkout, billing, and payment security.
• Resend or similar providers for email notifications and delivery.
• AI service providers if Compass uses AI-supported coaching, prompts, planning, or reflection tools.

8. Payments and subscriptions

Payments and subscriptions are processed by Stripe or a similar payment provider. Davisville Labs may receive information such as customer name, email address, subscription status, payment status, plan information, and related checkout metadata.

Full payment card numbers are handled by the payment processor and are not intended to be stored directly by Davisville Labs.

9. Data storage and retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to operate Compass, maintain accounts, provide services, respond to requests, preserve business records, improve the product, protect security, and comply with legal, tax, accounting, or operational obligations.

Parents, guardians, or account holders may request deletion of certain personal information by contacting us. Some information may need to be retained for legitimate business, legal, payment, tax, security, or dispute-resolution purposes.

10. Data security

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect information. These may include secure hosting, authentication systems, limited access controls, HTTPS, database security features, payment processor security, and monitoring for reliability and abuse.

No website, app, database, payment system, email system, analytics tool, or online service can guarantee perfect security. We work to reduce risk and protect user trust.

11. California and other privacy rights

Davisville Labs is based in California and serves families who may live in California or other states. Depending on where you live and which privacy laws apply, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of certain personal information.

California residents may have additional rights under California privacy laws, depending on whether those laws apply to Davisville Labs and the specific information involved.

12. Email communications

If you create an account, join a signup list, contact us, subscribe, or use Compass, we may send service-related emails, account notices, payment-related messages, product updates, support replies, and other communications related to Compass.

You are responsible for providing an accurate email address and ensuring that you are authorized to use it.

13. Links to other websites

Compass and Davisville Labs pages may link to third-party websites, tools, payment processors, authentication providers, educational resources, or external services. Those websites and services are governed by their own privacy policies and terms.

14. Independent platform disclaimer

Compass is an independent educational platform created by Davisville Labs LLC. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or acting on behalf of any college, university, school system, or application platform.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make changes, we will update the date above. Continued use of Compass or Davisville Labs websites after updates means you accept the revised policy.
